Frequently asked questions

What data sources do you cover?

California State Controller (all 10 employer types, 2014-2024), CalPERS employer rates (12,600+ plans), CDE K-12 salary schedules (921 districts), SCO Financial Transaction Reports, salary schedules with step progressions (1,200+ agencies), MOU contracts (435 agencies), and board meeting packet compensation events (376 districts).

How does the free trial work?

You get 30 days of full, unrestricted access to every dataset and feature. Credit card required at signup. If you cancel before the trial ends, you're never charged. After 30 days, you're billed monthly at $1,000/mo unless you choose annual billing.

Can I export data to Excel?

Yes. Every dataset is exportable to CSV and XLSX. The export is formatted and ready to use — not a raw data dump. Pull peer agency salary comparisons, step progressions, and classification data directly into your study templates.

How often is data updated?

SCO data is imported within 5 business days of each annual release. Salary schedules and board packet events are updated on a rolling basis as agencies publish new documents. CalPERS rates are updated when new actuarial reports are published.

What does 'data infrastructure only' mean?

We provide the raw and classified data. You apply your firm's methodology, produce your deliverables, and maintain your client relationships. Your analytical conclusions and recommendations are yours alone.

Why not just download from publicpay.ca.gov?

The raw SCO CSVs require 15+ hours of cleaning per study: free-text titles with no classification, no cross-year normalization, no salary schedules, no peer scoring. CalComp Data adds automated classification, title normalization, salary schedule step data, CalPERS rates, MOU terms, and board packet intelligence — all in one API call.

What if there's a data error?

Every record includes a source URL so you can verify against the original document in seconds. Data errors are triaged within 48 hours and corrected within 5 business days. Your firm retains full responsibility for methodology and analytical conclusions.

What is Board Packet Intelligence?

We monitor 376 district board meetings and extract compensation events — COLAs, new positions, reclassifications, MOU approvals, comp study awards. Every event includes a verbatim excerpt and clickable source URL. Know about compensation changes as they happen, not months later.

If my competitors subscribe, don't we all have the same data?

You have the same base data — just like every firm can download the same SCO CSVs today. Your differentiation is your methodology, your analytical judgment, and your client relationships. CalComp Data replaces the commodity data-gathering work, not the expertise that wins engagements.
